DMR (Digital Mobile Radio) is a common digital voice mode using talk groups to route conversations across repeaters, hotspots, and networks like BrandMeister.

Amateur radio only — not CB, GMRS, or any other service. You need a valid amateur radio license and proper equipment to join.

XLX159 DMR info

XLX159 bridges DMR traffic using its DMR module. When connecting via DMR, you will route through the reflector’s DMR module.

Talk group basics

DMR uses talk groups (TGs) to organize conversations. A talk group is like a channel on a reflector — only users tuned to the same TG hear each other.

When connecting to XLX159 via DMR, use the hostname and port above, then select the appropriate talk group for the Whiskey 7 network.

Brandmeister

BrandMeister is a popular DMR network that bridges talk groups across the world. If the XLX159 DMR bridge is linked through BrandMeister, you can reach it by setting your hotspot or radio to the correct BrandMeister talk group.

Hotspot setup (Pi-Star / WPSD)

  1. Log into your Pi-Star dashboard.
  2. Go to Configuration.
  3. Set DMR Hostname to xlx159.duckdns.org.
  4. Set DMR Port to 62030.
  5. Save and apply changes. Reboot your hotspot if needed.

Repeater / hotspot setup

  1. Configure your MMDVM-based repeater or hotspot with DMR mode enabled.
  2. Set the DMR master to xlx159.duckdns.org:62030 or point to your preferred BrandMeister master if bridging.
  3. Set your static talk group to match the Whiskey 7 DMR group.
  4. Save the config and restart the MMDVM host service.
